ALEXANDER AND BONIN AT THE WEEK OF ART OF SAO PAULO

ALEXANDER AND BONIN AT THE WEEK OF ART OF SAO PAULO

The gallery proposal consists of a series of sculptures of the North American artist Willie Cole. Using women's shoes -material that turned to be of great inspiration for the artist since the 80s-, Cole transformed those shoes into masks with humanoid features. Likewise, these masks refer to African mythology, its arts and its culture in general.

In this way, the artist endows sculptures with a social and cultural significance associated with socioeconomic status, the complexities of power and gender relations, the production and mass consumption system and other topics of universal interest.
