PLACE PROJECT GROUP LAUNCHES EXHIBIT IN THE MIAMI DESIGN DISTRICT TO CELEBRATE THE REOPENING OF CULTURAL EVENTS

Invited by Claire Breukel, curator for Art in the District, and with Craig Robins’ vision, PLACE Project Group becomes an early contributor to this inspiring time in which the magic city of Miami begins to re-open and the Miami Design District opens its doors again to connoisseurs of fashion, food and culture.

The brainchild of Founder & Executive Director Grela Orihuela, who is the former director and curator of the AQUA Art Miami and Art Wynwood fairs, PLACE Project Group establishes a new approach that compliments traditional large art fairs by creating events that are collaborative, more intimate and engaging.

Each exclusive space in PLACE will be tailored and curated to suit the exhibitor as well as the collector and the city where the PLACE event is produced, a distinctive and fresh model. PLACE is more than an art or design fair; It’s a custom and exclusive occasion that does not replicate an art fair model, but complements it. PLACE is a space that evokes the very essence of home and a lifestyle, where the visitor feels engaged and can easily envision how they might live in that space.

It assembles collaborative artist groupings that stay true to the PLACE mission: producing hybrid art and design events that cross cultural disciplines, bringing a fresh approach to how a collector experiences and engages with visual art, furniture design, jewelry design, fashion and music.

PLACE Miami - Preview Edition, which is located in Paradise Plaza Space #127 in the Miami Design District, is a must-attend destination for influential art professionals and enthusiasts, to experience a fresh approach to how a collector experiences and engages art. The venue will hold the physical works from Carbonell Design alongside local artists Gavin Perry, known for his mind-altering paintings and sculptures and Tawnie Silva’s dramatic textile works that incorporate text and a vibrant color palette.

Carbonell Design Studio features the work of artist and designer Vivian Carbonell.  She develops her pieces with an artists sensibility and works alongside local craftsmen in Los Angeles and Miami. Each handcrafted collection is comprised of original and limited edition lighting, furniture and accessories inspired by an emphasis on form as well as the core elements of each material chosen.

Gavin Perry was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. After receiving his BFA from the Tyler School of Art he moved to Miami, FL, where he now lives and works. Perry has exhibited nationally and internationally. He has had solo exhibitions in Paris, France, Madrid, Spain, Houston, TX and Miami, FL. He's been included in group exhibitions in Basel, Switzerland; Milan, Italy; Marseille, FR; and New York, NY. In 2012, Perry was a finalist for the first annual Pratt Prix, an award for contemporary painting, in Paris, FR. He is a recipient of the prestigious 2009 South Florida Cultural Consortium fellowship award.

Tawnie Silva: “Felt is a material that I remember working with in kindergarten. I was also drawn to it at church. The felt banners that hung with inspirational quotes on them stuck with me. There’s consistent element of text in my work and typically a vibrant color palette connected to  memories of childhood imagery yet the language I am using comes from my own current internal voice.”

Hush Fell is a collaborative art project of performance artist-filmmaker Marilyn Loddi and filmmaker Bill Bilowit. In a video and print series, artist collaborative Hush Fell assemble spontaneous “2nd brain” designs of edible sculpture.
