+ARTE GALLERY: 29 VARIATIONS OF A JOURNEY, BY NELSON SANTOS

From 06/13/2022 to 07/05/2022

Until July 5, the Ecuadorian visual artist Nelson Santos presents his series “29 variations of a journey” at the +Arte gallery in Quito. On this occasion, Nelson exposes a variety of techniques: oils, acrylic, text and photography, paper and collage, to tell a story through different landscapes and highlight the journey that life itself entails.

+ARTE GALLERY: 29 VARIATIONS OF A JOURNEY, BY NELSON SANTOS

Nelson Santos describes this exhibition with the following words:

“´29 variations of a trip´ is a project built from displacements, which tells a fictional story of the landscape. In these works, the environment serves as a stage for the text to break in and provide other ways of seeing.

I understand travel as a dialogue that provides transitions to life experience and enables encounters. Moving allows a direct experience with the landscape; each place and element found is no longer conceived as a simple thing and its observation becomes a phenomenological experience. What was previously distant, smooth and inert, is transformed into a living place, traversed and inhabited.

The trip allows me to circumvent common places, momentarily remove the everyday, the crowd, anxiety and uncertainty. As George Perec points out, "to live is to move from one space to another doing everything possible not to bump into each other."
