CHILE AT THE VENICE BIENNALE – “TURBA TOL” BY CAMILA MARAMBIO

The Chilean pavilion that will represent Chile at the upcoming 59th Venice Art Biennale will host the collective and interdisciplinary project Turba Tol, curated by Camila Marambio and with the participation of Ariel Bustamante, sound artist, Dominga Sotomayor, filmmaker, Carla Macchiavello, art historian and Alfredo Thiermann, architect. The management is in charge of Juan Pablo Vergara and also includes scientists, indigenous activists and other collaborators from the creative field.

CHILE AT THE VENICE BIENNALE – “TURBA TOL” BY CAMILA MARAMBIO

Turba Tol (in its full extension Turba Tol Hol-Hol Tol) is an experimental path that highlights the collaboration between arts, sciences and indigenous thought that seeks the conservation of the peat bog wetlands of Patagonia and justice for the Selk' culture that originated in those peat bogs of Tierra del Fuego, and that has been developed between the creative team that makes up the project that was born from the Essays platform, Wildlife Conservation Society Chile (WCS Chile) and the Hach Saye Foundation.

As part of this long process that tries to help the socio-ecological transformation, the Turba Tol team is carrying out the Cable exploratory trip to the peat bog in Karukinka Park (WCS Chile) between January 3 and 9, 2022. Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego, visit in which knowledge and views will be collected, practicing listening and coexistence.

After this period, and before crossing the Atlantic to Venice, the "Turba Tol Meetings: views from science, art and indigenous knowledge regarding the conservation of peat bogs" will be held with three activities in the regions of Magallanes, Aysén and Los Lagos, which seek to share the reflections and issues that build the Chilean pavilion, at the same time as opening dialogue with local communities.

In Punta Arenas, Magallanes Region, this tour begins on Sunday, January 9 at 4:00 p.m. in person at the Ernesto Livacic Auditorium of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Magallanes with the participation of Rafael Cheuquelaf, coordinator of Art and Cultures of the Extension Directorate of the University of Magallanes, Camila Marambio, curator of Turba Tol , Ariel Bustamante, sound artist participating in Turba Tol, Hema'ny Molina, writer, president of the Selk'nam-Chile Corporation and founder of the Hach Saye Foundation, and Bárbara Saavedra, expert in biodiversity conservation and director of WCS Chile. This first meeting takes place within the framework of the 2022 Summer School of the same university and presented this year as "Escuela Austral: maritorio, cultural rights and suralidades".

Then in Puerto Varas, Los Lagos Region, on Tuesday, January 18, the meeting will take place at the Molino Machmar Art Center at 09:00 hrs. also in person and with the participation of Camila Marambio, curator of Turba Tol, Nicole Püschel, WCS Chile, Carolina León Valdebenito, CIRENYS, Álvaro Montaña, Geute Conservation Sur, Vero Calder and Gaspar Álvarez , socio- environmental promoters, Alejandra Marambio, Fundación MAPA and Ximena Moreno, curator of the Chilean Pavilion 2022 of the Ministry of Cultures. The day continues at 4:30 p.m. with the First Citizen MAPA Meeting on the Municipal Boulevard.

Finally, from Coyhaique, Aysén Region, the meeting will be broadcast online together with the Patagonia Campus of the Austral University of Chile on Tuesday, January 25 at 4:00 p.m. with the participation of Camila Marambio, curator of Turba Tol, Dominga Sotomayor , filmmaker, and Alfredo Thiermann, architect, both participating artists in TurbaTol, and Ximena Moreno, curator of the Chilean Pavilion 2022 of the Ministry of Cultures, together with the moderation of Carlos Galdames, coordinator of Art and Culture of the same university.
