MEIAC PRESENTS MARTÍN LÓPEZ LAM’S PAISAJE TRANSFERIDO
The Museo Extremeño e Iberoamericano de Arte Contemporáneo (MEIAC) in Badajoz is exhibiting, under the title Paisaje Transferido, a wide-ranging show by MartÍn Lopez Lam (Lima, Peru, 1981), one of the main exponents of graphic art in Spain, where he has been living for the last two decades.

The exhibition, which emerged after the artist collaboration with the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome, displays the result of the critical work carried out as a result of the analysis of the botanical representation of the Spanish scientific expeditions to America in the 18th century.
For this particular work, the Peruvian starts from Florae Peruvianae, et Chilensis Prodromus, by Hipólito Ruiz and José Antonio Pavón, a volume on the fieldwork carried out by both of them in the viceroyalty of Peru in that time frame of the emergence of scientism. After analyzing the graphic content, López Lam delves into the need to contextualize the illustrations that lie under the characteristic white background, helping to recompose the real essence of the lost environment through a landscape imagined from the very details provided by the scientific illustrators.
The proposal translates into silkscreen prints on canvas and ceramic pieces with a high chromatic content that develops, starting from that emptiness, a framework that shows a somewhat closer reality than the one shown in the scientific volumes, highlighting the political and economic significance of the elements represented, many of them protagonists of heraldry, and their role in trade and everyday life in Europe after their importation as goods.
Paisaje Transferido is on display until August 4 at the Museo Extremeño e Iberoamericano de Arte Contemporáneo (MEIAC), Museo st., Badajoz, Spain.
