THE MONUMENTAL PORTRAITS OF HUARCAYA AT ICPNA CULTURAL
The exhibition Ver por contacto (Seeing by Contact). Fotogramas 2014-2024 brings together the work produced over the last ten years by Peruvian photographer and visual artist Roberto Huarcaya.

The exhibition presents a set of large-format ("monumental") photograms made with different techniques (cyanotype, Van Dyke brown, etc.) in different regions of the Peruvian territory: from the Pacific coasts to the forests of the Amazon through the mountains of the Andes. Halfway between experimental photography, land art and installation, Ver por contacto proposes an immersive experience that invites viewers to melt into the images.
These explorations led Huarcaya a decade ago to become interested in one of the original techniques (understood as a beginning in time and ontological essence) of photography: the photogram. Disregarding accessory elements in the image production process, the photogram retains only those essential to access "the photographic": a light source, a photosensitive surface, an object, developer and fixer. In this sense, the photogram is an artisanal process based on a technological minimalism that goes against the current technophile trends. This technique is therefore not new. The list of "photographers" who have experimented with this form of "writing with light" (photography) is long: from pioneers such as John Hershell and Anna Atkins, to avant-gardists such as László Moholy-Nagy and Man Ray, to contemporaries such as James Welling and Liz Deschenes. The works produced by Huarcaya over the last ten years are heirs, then, to this long tradition.
Alejandro León Cannock, curator.
The exhibition will be open to the public at the Espacio Germán Krüger Espantoso of the ICPNA Miraflores, Lima, Peru. It will be open from Tuesday, April 2 to Sunday, June 23 from 10 AM to 7 PM.
